Frequently Asked Questions
Wrinkles are a natural part of the aging process, driven by a combination of factors in the environment and our genes. With age, there is a gradual decline in the production of essential proteins like collagen and elastin, which provide structure and elasticity to the skin.
Environmental factors such as prolonged sun exposure, smoking, pollution, repetitive facial expressions, poor hydration and skincare are also factors that contribute to the formation of lines and wrinkles.
Sun damage is one of the strongest risk factors for worsening fine lines and wrinkles. Protecting yourself with a hydrating SPF 50 daily, year-round is essential (even if you are indoors in a room with windows!). Without wearing adequate sun protection, any treatments we offer will be of minimal benefit to you in the long term and may affect the longevity of your results.
Stopping smoking, improving your oral fluid intake and following a good skincare routine will also help improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
There are a numerous treatments available for lines and wrinkles and the type of treatment depends on what the cause of the lines and wrinkles are. Dr Vasudevan will conduct an in-depth consultation to determine the cause of your fine lines and wrinkles, and provide you with a bespoke treatment plan.
If your lines and wrinkles are dynamic, meaning they appear in places where your facial muscles move, causing the skin in the area to fold and crease, we can offer anti-wrinkle injections, which consist of a natural substance that is injected into the muscles of the face to relax them. Once injected, this prevents the muscles from moving as strongly as they did before and allows the skin in the area to recover without being constantly folded, thus improving the appearance of your lines and wrinkles.
If your lines are unrelated to the movement of your facial muscles, we have other options such as chemical peels, microneedling, skin boosters, medical grade skincare, Profhilo and polynucleotides.
Microneedling can help to improve lines and wrinkles by encouraging the skin to produce collagen and elastin. Chemical peels exfoliate the skin and remove the old, top layer of dead skin cells which also encourages your skin to produce new cells. Medical grade skin care often contain ingredients such as retinol or exfoliating acids which also help increase the skin’s ability to produce new cells. Skin boosters and more advanced technologies such as Profhilo or polynucleotides promote skin hydration, collagen and elastin stimulation.
Most treatments require at least 2 to 3 sessions to see any visible improvement. The normal skin cycle (i.e. the time it takes for old skin cells to be replaced by new skin cells) is between 4 and 6 weeks. The older we get, the longer it takes for skin cells to be replaced. Most skin treatments need at least 2 skin cycles for any improvement to be visible.
Please contact us via email to receive our pricing list. We require all our patients to book a consultation with our doctors prior to starting any treatments. We carefully prepare bespoke plans for all our patients and some treatments may be unsuitable for some patients.
We do everything we can to reduce pain and discomfort during the treatment. We can use a numbing cream before the procedure to help make the procedure more comfortable for you; however, most of our clients do not usually require this. The needles we use are very fine and most patients experience minimal discomfort during and after the procedure.
Like any procedure, there are possible risks which will be discussed with you in detail during your consultation as these vary between treatments. The side effects are usually mild and most commonly, bruising, redness, or swelling which usually settle within a few days. Some treatments such as peels, microneedling or medical grade skincare may cause your skin to feel tight or flake. For more information about side effects for your particular treatments, please book a consultation with our doctors.
